Design Consultation
The Carousel House is an active project in Portland Oregon with lead designer Brittany Venner. In this project Studio Birdy has provided the technical drawings, renders, furniture space planning and design consultation throughout the project.
The Carousel House (1969) is a special home consisting of unique octagonal roofs joined together with structural beams mimicking a carousel. Rooms are joined with expansive windows to views of giant sequoias, redwoods and other massive evergreens. Originally designed by architect Marjorie Wintermute and owned by the same family for generations, the home has largely been untouched- preserving most of the thoughtful original mid-century design.
The new design brings function for the new owner while preserving the original design intent of the home with warmth, minimalism and elevated mid-century design.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Meghan over the past six months on the renovation of a 4,600-square-foot mid-century home, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better partner on this project. It was far from a typical renovation. The home featured two octagonal main living spaces, one of them being the kitchen, which made it an especially unique and complex design challenge.
One of Meghan’s greatest strengths is her ability to take conceptual sketches and transform them into clear, thoughtful technical drawings. From the octagonal kitchen to four bathrooms and several uniquely shaped living spaces, she approached every challenge with creativity, precision, and confidence.

I believe the ability to stay positive under pressure says a lot about a person, and Meghan handled every challenge I threw her way with grace, patience, and professionalism. She was always open to feedback, quick to make revisions, and communicated clearly throughout the entire process.
Even with tight timelines, Meghan remained dependable, detail-oriented, and consistently delivered high-quality work. Knowing I could trust her with the technical side of the project gave me the freedom to focus on what I love most, creating and being present on the job site.
